Sign Sign Sign!

DDA drug

Incident 1

Somebody sat on a chair and yelled,"Ho, come and sign here(DDA drug check book) for me"

me,"can you give me the key to me to check the DDA?"

- excuse me, I only sign if I really see the stocks are available. You thought you ask me to sign then i'll sign blindly, weren't you? Thought I have no brain? If there was lost of drug, do you protect my nursing license?

Incident 2

After somebody A asked me to sign the DDA book blindly, somebody B asked me to help A sign it. She said, "yes yes, you can sign". I said," erm...I think you have better to ask the person who checked DDA this morning to sign it"

- I didn't even check the DDA this morning, just ask me to sign blindly? again sign sign sign.

Pre-operation Checklist

Somebody said, "SN Ho, can you please help me to verify the checklist?"

While I was looking through the checklist in order to check whether she has completed the checklist, she asked, "can you please JUST sign?". I ignored her, continued checking the checklist then only verify the checklist for her.

-excuse me, you are staff nurse or I am staff nurse? Anything happen people blame you or blame me?Don't teach me how to do my job. If you want to ask somebody to sign blindly, don't ever ask me again.

In conclusion, people here just love to give their signatures.Perhaps not all. I believes there are few of staff nurses very responsible in their jobs. Just couldn't stand with the culture of "BLINDLY SIGN".

2nd week Staff Nurse

Today did IM Pethidine 50mg for the patient at the gluteal muscle, and IV Maxalon 10mg through IV branula.
At night, managed to withdraw blood for INR blood sample.

I am happy today becoz managed to prepare drug with syringe n needle, which I hardly do when I was student or when there were many staffs working same shift with me.
The working environment today was not stressful coz the staffs were all nice and helpful. In addition to this, I was able to take my time to do nursing care or procedures.

The First Week Staff Nurse

4 Aug 2010 (Wed) - First day: very disorientated about the environment in the ward. Observing around.
5 Aug 2010 (Thurs) - 2nd day in the ward. Many ppl in the ward asked me to find a better opportunity. Was hanging round in the ward only due to lack of guidance.

6 Aug 2010 (Fri) - The 3rd day nurse was asked some questions by a student, unable to answer, still haven't refreshed back what she learnt. Started some learning objectives for herself everyday.

7 Aug 2010 (Sat) - Was getting demotivated to go to work. Tried to stand strong.

8 Aug 2010 (Sun) - Started to carry out nursing procedures, such as dressing. Found the job is more meaningful compared to past few days.

9 Aug 2010 (Mon) - Getting adapt to the new environment. More able to function in the ward. Asked a senior staff nurse M for supervision in giving medication, was being taught by her THOROUGHLY in the whole shift. Feel can learn more from her- became more motivated now. However, feel a bit stress from the way she taught me (Everybody saw the way she increased her tone while teaching me and always unable to answer her questions).

10 Aug 2010 (Tues) -Staff nurse M said worried about me- whether I can survive in the ward. Started to query about myself- whether I can be a competent nurse. These few days was very blur, non-competent, loss of 70% of the learnt knowledge. Life getting more challenging. Feel more stress. Tried to spend some time to revise my knowledge.

Conclusion: Nevertheless, the staff and assitant nurses are all very helpful and friendly. Those who join the hospital for one month are helpful, supportive and friendly. One of them teach me even I didn't ask anything, one of them always listen to my complaint. They are all really Angels for me! ^^
